New York has a large population and at least one person may need legal help, at least once. New York is a cramped state, so you may have to deal with criminal matters, landlord-tenant problems or other situations that might arise. Thanks to the New York State Bar Association, finding the right lawyer is now made simple. Residents and businesses can now find the best lawyer to help them when it comes to following New York laws.

The New York State Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral and Information Service has just launched the new legal service for New Yorkers who may need a lawyer. The New York State Bar Association offers this service 24 hours a day and is completely confidential. However, the state bar still offers the phone system, for those who prefer it over the new online portal.

The New York State Bar Association approved these lawyers who are in good legal standing. This new service from the Lawyer Referral and Information Service is intended to relive the stress of finding good legal assistance. The New York State Bar Association launched this service with the help of legal service provider Legal.io.

This newly established service, allows New York lawyers to provide legal aid to a greater number of people while allowing them to save money. The Lawyer Referral and Information Service has been credited with growing New York lawyers’ practices. The New York State Bar Association is the largest in the nation, with 72,000 members.

One lawyer who is part of this new service is Jeremy Goldstein. Jeremy Goldstein is an expert on a variety of issues including executive compensation and corporate governance. He is partner at Jeremy L. Goldstein and Associates.

Jeremy Goldstein has been involved in dozens of the largest corporate transactions from the last 10 years. He oversaw the purchase of Goodrich by United Technologies. He received his J.D. from New York University Law school.

It safe to say that most United States citizens will need legal services at some point in time in their life. Knowing this, I think the legal system should be set up in a way that makes it relatively simple to hire an experienced lawyer without so much of the hassle that goes into the process. Because of how intimidating the task of hiring a dependable attorney is, people will go against their own best interest and choose not to hire one at all. Thousands of people have neglected their legal issues because of how hard it is to navigate the legal system.

The New York State Bar Association has been helping New Yorkers find experienced attorneys for years now. It has offered an attorney referral service for over 30 years. And since the attorney referral service was established the New York State Bar Association has steadily improved upon the flaws of the service.

Recently, the New York State Bar Association has launched a free online service through its Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS). The new online portal allows individuals seeking an attorney to request an attorney referral by way of the worldwide web. Legal.io, a national provider of software and other IT solutions for the legal industry, helped the New York State Bar Association develop the 24 hour online portal.

Both the New York State Bar Association and Legal.io were in favor of making the online portal available to non-New York residents because they believe it has the potential to become the go-to online destination for consumers and businesses on a global scale.

For inmates doing time in the United States prison system, nothing is more important than being able to stay in touch with family members. The ability of inmates to stay in almost constant contact with their family provides a powerful incentive for good behavior and a sense of hope that, when they are finally released, they will have something to go home to.

Many studies have shown that regular social contract with prosocial, law-abiding citizens is the best way for inmates to avoid the pitfalls of institutionalization. This latter outcome occurs when inmates become so habituated to the prison environment that they simply cannot function outside of its structure. It readily occurs to inmates whose only social contact is with convicted felons, who are oftentimes severely antisocial individuals pursuing a life of crime.

Securus Technologies, the nation’s leading inmate communications provider, has rolled out a system of virtual video visitation that allows inmates to say in regular contact with their family members and other loved ones. This system provides a high-quality, face-to-face video feed that is available to inmates and their families, for a very low cost. Most inmates that are using the Securus system pay approximately $0.15 per minute . This compares very favorably to the best phone rates available throughout the U.S. prison system.

But the video visitation system is not just a great convenience to the inmates themselves. It is also a wonderful tool for the inmates’ families, allowing wives, children and parents to stay in touch with their incarcerated loved ones. In fact, the role of this technology plays in the lives of children cannot be overstated. Children from disadvantaged families that would not otherwise have the opportunity to have a father in their lives can now have him there, due to the benefits of Securus video visitation.

When Arizona passed the proposition requiring undocumented students to pay an extra out-of-state fee and exempting them from receiving publicly funded scholarships, many students dropped out of school. However, a few others from Arizona State University came out and formed a support group for immigrant youths.

This group of undocumented and unafraid students was the start of the now Arizona Dream Act Coalition. Its main task is to fight for higher education, lower tuition fee, human and immigrant rights. The first founders of Arizona Dream Act Coalition had to compete for a private scholarship so that they can finish their studies.

The Arizona Justice Project is an organization formed in 1998 to help inmates whose cry of wrongful conviction is not heard. They also help inmates who are receiving excessive punishment like ones suffering from a life-threatening condition and are not receiving the care they need to receive and juveniles who have life imprisonment sentence. When a case is presented to Arizona Justice Project, it is given to a team that includes a staff of the organization or a pro-Bono lawyer and a student from any of the three law schools they work with.

They also have experts investigators responsible for tracking witnesses, finding evidence and information. AJP works with two clinics that specialize in wrongful conviction victims and forensic and DNA experts.

The organization issues newsletter to educate the public on misconceptions of wrongful conviction, keeping lawyers and law students up to date and informing supporters of its current cases and the development made in the old ones.

Lacey and Larkin’s arrest

In 2007, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin were arrested at midnight and jailed for revealing the existence of grand jury proceedings that sought reporters’ notes on articles covering Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The co-founders of Phoenix New Times and Village Voice Media sued the county for violenting their First Amendment rights.

The journalist’s decision

Lacey and Jim finally won when United States Court of Appeals ruled in their favor and received a settlement of $3.75 million. The two have decided to use the money from their settlement to fund groups that are fighting for human, immigrants and civil rights.

Groups that advocate for freedom of speech and civil participation in Arizona will also receive funding. They do not want anybody to go through what they went through and that is how they came up with the idea of Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund.
